At the ceremony held in Lagos, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, welcomed the inductees and charged them to uphold CIPM’s professional standards. He reminded practitioners that only CIPM-certified professionals are permitted by law to practice HR in Nigeria, cautioning that individuals who operate without certification remain in breach of existing regulations. He also announced that the Institute will begin delisting non-financial members from Wednesday, 31st December, 2025, encouraging all affected members to regularise their status by renewing their annual dues.

Mallam Gobir emphasised the theme of the ceremony, “Beyond Engagement to Fulfillment: Building a Culture that Nurtures Belonging and Purpose at Work”, noting that modern organisations require more than traditional engagement strategies. Citing writer Khalil Gibran, he remarked that “work is love made visible”; engagement gets work done, while fulfillment transforms that work into love made visible. He urged the new inductees to become active chapter members and to invest continuously in professional development through CIPM platforms such as the HR Leadership Academy, the CIPM and You Webinar Series, the International Conference and Exhibition, and other learning avenues.

The President also advised the inductees to identify mentors whose values and professional journeys they admire. Such guidance, he noted, remains crucial for shaping successful HR careers.

The guest lecture, delivered by Mr. Kayode Abe, FCIPM, Chief Consultant at Kingspride Consult Limited, examined the gap between employee engagement and employee fulfillment. Abe described engagement as a positive attitude toward work and organisational values, while fulfillment is a deeper alignment between work and personal motivations that produces meaning and purpose. He highlighted that an employee may be engaged without being fulfilled; however, a fulfilled employee is almost always highly engaged.

He added that weak workplace culture, poor compensation structures, and low belonging pose significant threats to retention. He urged HR professionals to lead cultures rooted in acceptance, trust, inclusion, and shared purpose.

In his concluding remarks, Abe encouraged the inductees to choose the path of certified, forward-thinking professionals who drive visible transformation. He noted that their induction places an obligation on them to help organisations transition from mere engagement to sustained fulfillment while nurturing cultures that value people and promote purpose.

The ceremony also honoured the Best Graduating Students from the 2025 examination diets. Ebenezer Sangokoya emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student for the June 2025 diet. David Moses Eyo received the same honour for the September 2025 diet. Each awardee received ₦500,000 in cash and an all-expense-paid trip to the 58th CIPM International Conference and Exhibition in Abuja in 2026.

The newly inducted members include 34 executive-route Full Members, 474 Practitioner’s Route Associates, and 753 Associate members from the examination route.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the message was unmistakable: the future of Nigeria’s workplace rests in the hands of HR professionals who choose excellence over convenience, certification over guesswork, and purpose-driven leadership over routine administration. With their induction, these 1,261 professionals now carry the weight of a national mandate to uphold the law, elevate workplace culture, and champion practices that move organisations from mere engagement to true fulfillment. Their journey begins with the pledge they have made to the Institute; their impact will be measured by the workplaces they transform.

“We have created a world where men are expected to always be providers, protectors, and strong, never showing vulnerability. But this expectation has taken a toll on how men live and work every single day.” — Mr. Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

“The greatest battles are not the ones we see — they are the unseen battles fought in the minds of the average man.” — Mr. Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

“Society places heavy roles on men — to be breadwinners, protectors, leaders, and superheroes who never show emotion. But behind these expectations are silent struggles. Many men carry pressure they cannot voice in an economy that demands more than their strength can hold.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Men struggle with suicidal thoughts because they do not speak. Stress, depression, substance abuse, and financial pressure sit heavily on their shoulders yet stigma keeps them silent.” — Mr Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

“No man wants to be seen as someone who cannot provide for his family. So they hide their pain, and the silence becomes dangerous.” — Mr. Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

Lesson: Men face immense, often invisible pressures. Awareness and empathy are critical in workplaces and society to support men’s mental health.

2. Mental and Emotional Wellbeing at Work

“They are very important lifestyle pillars for every human being, and they contribute significantly to shaping our mindset. We must make the workplace a place of comfort for our men. The more comfortable a man feels, the more productive he becomes.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Creating a truly conducive environment — one that feels like home — brings out the best in him.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Respect is equally important. We must eliminate toxicity in the workplace so that a man feels he can be vulnerable and still be valued.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“What kind of Employee Assistance Programme do you have? Is it focused only on productivity? Because when mental health is compromised, productivity is compromised too.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Mental health must become a priority at work. Create space for open conversations, support systems, and environments where people feel seen and safe.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Invest in wellbeing. Sponsor more social events. Build connection. A healthier mind creates a healthier workforce.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Employees need social support and emotional stability. Prioritise the emotional state of your people — it matters just as much as their skills.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Be conscious of holistic wellbeing. HR must design programmes that address the total wellbeing of employees, especially men who often hide their struggles.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“When emotional wellbeing is nurtured and demonstrated at work, the whole organisation thrives.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

Lesson: Holistic wellbeing — mental, emotional, and social — must be integrated into workplace culture. Employee support structures and safe environments are key to productivity and retention.

3. Self-Care, Mindfulness, and Lifestyle

“Have a routine. Create time for prayer, meditation, and something that lifts your spirit. Move your body — even a 30-minute walk around your neighbourhood can reset your mind.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Take care of your body. Learn to say no. Men must learn to soro soke — speak up and set boundaries.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Practice mindfulness. Don’t react in haste; slow down. When you feel triggered, pause, breathe, and reset.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Surround yourself with good friends and supportive family. Unwind. Rest. Do not overwork or stretch your body beyond its limit.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“There is no superman. There is no superhuman. There is only a man doing his best within his limits.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Men, take care of yourselves. Rest, use wisdom, and seek support when you need it. Your wellbeing is your longevity.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

Lesson: Self-care, mindfulness, and boundaries are essential strategies for mental and physical wellbeing. Men must prioritize their own health to thrive in work and life.

4. Gender Roles and Workplace Balance

“There are long-standing traditions and gender roles placed on men — at home, in the workplace, and across society. These expectations grow out of our beliefs and culture: men must be breadwinners, protectors, financial providers; they must be strong, assertive, unemotional, decisive leaders who never falter.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“Yet behind this façade of strength lies a quiet struggle. Many men carry the weight of these expectations in an economy that stretches them thin, all while being told that seeking help is a sign of weakness.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“At work, when formulating policies or setting direction, balance is essential. Too often, decisions are skewed toward one gender.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“To achieve true balance, we must consider the people our decisions affect, listen to their needs, and ensure all perspectives are heard.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“Organisations must ask themselves how they develop gender-balanced policies. As we drive DEI initiatives, we must invest equally in both women and men to achieve balance. A fair and equitable approach ensures organisations grow with justice, clarity, and purpose, driving activities and decisions in the right direction.” — Mr. Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

Lesson: Organisations must create gender-balanced, equitable policies that account for the needs of both men and women, supporting fairness and sustainable growth.

“You can learn and engage in new skills at any stage of life. Retirement is not a reason to sit idle — you can mentor, teach, and continue contributing.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“What does old age mean to you? That is a question each of us must answer for ourselves.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“The second most productive years of our life are the ten years between 60 and 70. You can retire from a job, but never retire from work. Retirement is simply hanging up the old uniform and stepping into a new purpose.” — Dr. Habila Amos, FCIPM

“We need to create meaning in our lives. Ask yourself: what is my purpose on earth? Every person must have a purpose that gives direction. Whatever work we do, we should seek to find meaning in it and consider how it contributes to a larger purpose and to humanity. HR has a vital role in helping people connect with this central purpose. HR must assist people to find purpose in what they are doing.” — CIPM Past president, Dr. Oladimeji Alo, FCIPM

“Make yourself relevant and active—always seek to acquire new skills. As a man, plan for your life after official retirement. God has given us talents and relationships that can keep us engaged and thriving well into our 80s.” — CIPM Past president, Dr. Oladimeji Alo, FCIPM

Lesson: Lifelong learning, mentorship, and finding purpose are key to personal fulfillment and sustaining meaningful contributions throughout life.

6. Leadership, Mentorship, and Family

“To men, the role of a man in life is to be available and accessible. This is a 24-hour responsibility, but it must be carried out with wisdom. Within that availability, find time to live a balanced life—because all aspects of your well-being are important. For those in positions to make decisions, act with empathy, compassion, and kindness. Ensure that everything you do and every policy you create reflects these values.” — Mr. Ayodeji Bankole-Olusina

“We must show our children that love and discipline can coexist. Be an active participant in their lives. As leaders, understand that leadership is not about domination—it’s about collaboration. Create a workplace environment where trust, empathy, and safety exist, allowing people to thrive. Think about how you can mentor the younger generation and give back. Maintain a healthy mind and check on your overall well-being. HR, please look out for the men—men are critical.” — Mr. Stanley Eluwa, MCIPM

“As solution providers, mentors, and coaches, let us ensure we take care of our health and well-being, even as we fulfill the roles God has entrusted to us.” — Mr. Adeyemi Ajayi, FCIPM

“We need to find a way to talk to ourselves more—as men.” — Immediate past President, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, fnli

Lesson: Leadership and mentorship require empathy, self-care, and active engagement with both family and workplace communities. Men must model wellbeing while guiding others.

The 57th International Conference and Exhibition of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) ended on a resounding note, with Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo urging HR professionals to champion a humane, ethical, and future-ready workforce for Nigeria.

Prof. Osinbajo, who graced the closing ceremony, commended CIPM “for the giant strides it has made over the years in regulating the practice of people management in Nigeria” and warned that artificial intelligence and rapid digital change have already transformed the world of work. “AI has transformed everything about the world. The future of work is already here — shaped by rapid digital transformation and our youthful population,” he told a packed hall. “We must continue to reskill and upskill to meet the opportunities of the new world of work.”

L-R: Immediate Past President of CIPM, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, fnli; Vice President of CIPM, Mrs. Chidinma Obiejesi, FCIPM; Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN; President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli; National Treasurer of CIPM, Mrs. Ogochukwu Egbuonu, FCIPM, and the Registrar/Chief Executive of CIPM, Ms. Oluwatoyin Naiwo, FCIPM, at the closing ceremony of CIPM’s 57th International Conference and Exhibition, held recently in Abuja, Nigeria.

On ethics and governance, the former Vice-President urged HR leaders to craft clear guidelines for the responsible use of technology. “Ethical and responsible use of technology is critical. HR must ensure this. HR should create clear ethical guidelines to regulate AI,” he said, stressing that HR professionals must embrace data, which should “serve as a tool of empowerment and not control.”

Prof. Osinbajo also highlighted the human dimensions of the workplace and called for updated labour laws that reflect new work realities. “Prioritise employee wellbeing and mental health. Create a culture of empathy and inclusion to maintain productivity,” he said. “The future of work will not be determined by tech alone but by how organisations integrate human values in the deployment of tech, which HR professionals are at the forefront of achieving. The new world of work will be determined by people, not technology.”

With a total of 5,019 registered participants — 3,937 in-person delegates and 1,082 virtual attendees — this year’s edition officially stands as the largest Human Resources gathering in Africa, reinforcing CIPM’s position at the forefront of people-management excellence on the continent and underscoring Nigeria’s growing influence in shaping the future of work discourse regionally and globally.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, used the occasion to press a practical point: the ideas exchanged over the conference must be converted into action. “Ensure you deploy the knowledge you gained from the conference in your various places of work,” he implored delegates, charging HR professionals to become the engines of change within their organisations.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, presenting an award of excellence to Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, at the closing ceremony of CIPM’s 57th International Conference and Exhibition, held recently in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Gala and Award Night that followed the closing ceremony delivered a celebratory high note: 73 members were conferred with Fellowship of the Institute, a recognition reserved for professionals who have demonstrated outstanding contribution to the practice of people management in Nigeria.

As the curtains fell on this landmark conference, one message echoed louder than ever: Nigeria’s future will not be written by technology, but by the people empowered to use it with wisdom, empathy, and vision. From the inspiring charge of Prof. Osinbajo to the unwavering commitment of CIPM and thousands of delegates, the 57th International Conference ends not as a ceremony, but as a call to duty — to transform workplaces, elevate human potential, and lead a future where innovation serves humanity. With renewed energy and shared purpose, Nigeria’s HR community leaves Abuja ready not just to adapt to the new world of work but to shape it.

In his opening address, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, set an inspiring tone for the event. He described the conference as more than a gathering, “a movement to shape the mindset, skills, and culture of the Nigerian workforce for the new realities of work. “The future will not reward the strongest or the smartest, but those brave enough to stay human in a digital world.” Mallam Gobir declared.

Mallam Gobir reaffirmed CIPM’s commitment to equipping professionals with the skills and values needed to navigate technological disruptions while keeping workplaces humane and inclusive. “We are at an inflection point,” he said. “The choices we make as leaders and professionals today will determine whether Nigeria becomes a net exporter of talent and innovation, or a nation that struggles to keep up with the pace of change. CIPM is determined to ensure it is the former.”

The event also featured thought-provoking sessions from speakers. Dr. Tope Fasua examined the global economic forces shaping Africa’s workforce, urging Nigerian institutions to “embrace innovation and regional integration as the levers of competitiveness,” while Dr. Linus Okorie inspired delegates to embrace transformational leadership by “leading by example and investing in continuous learning.”

Delegates at the CIPM’s 57th International Conference and Exhibition 2025 taking place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.

A major highlight of the opening ceremony was the official launch of the CIPM Mobile App, an innovative platform designed to enhance members’ access to professional resources, streamline conference engagement, and promote continuous learning. The app’s launch symbolised CIPM’s drive to blend tradition with technology in its mission to build a world-class HR profession.

The opening ceremony was both inspiring and strategic, a rare alignment of policy, leadership, and vision. As the sessions continue, the resounding message from government and industry leaders remains clear: CIPM stands at the heart of Nigeria’s human capital transformation, and its collaboration with government and the private sector will be key to reimagining —and realising — the new world of work.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) held its 66th Specialised Induction Ceremony, inducting administrators and HR staff of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) into the Institute. Themed “Raising the Bar of Professional Standards: HR as a Steward of Transformation”, the event highlighted the pivotal role of Human Resource (HR) professionals in driving excellence and sustainable transformation within organisations and society. The ceremony formally inducted six Full Members and seventy-seven Associate Members into the Institute.

L–R: Guest Speaker, Dr. Sabastine Nwajide Okeke, FCIPM; Vice President of CIPM, Mrs. Chidinma Justina Obiejesi, FCIPM; President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, Fnli; Registrar/Chief Executive of CIPM, Ms. Oluwatoyin Naiwo, FCIPM; and Member of the Membership Committee of CIPM, Mr. Kennedy Igho Urherebrume, FCIPM, at the 66th Specialised Induction Ceremony of CIPM, held recently at RCCG Camp, Ogun State, Nigeria.

In his welcome address, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, charged the new inductees to embrace their roles not just as HR practitioners but as “stewards of transformation.” He stressed that the lapel pins and certificates received symbolised a professional and moral responsibility to remain committed to the highest standards of HR practice.

“Today, you are crossing from potential to professional,” Gobir said. “HR is not about pushing files; it is about stewarding destinies, igniting purpose, and transforming organisations. The true measure of HR is not in the policies you write, but in the lives you transform.”

He further urged the inductees to prepare for the future of work, citing World Economic Forum projections that 92 million jobs may be displaced by automation by 2030, while 170 million new roles will be created. According to him, HR professionals must take the lead in preparing people and organisations for such transitions.

Delivering the keynote address, Pastor (Dr.) Sabastine Okeke, FCIPM, Coordinator of Personnel Affairs at RCCG, spoke extensively on the historical evolution of professional bodies and the critical importance of professional standards. He noted that professional standards serve as the foundation of credibility, quality, and trust, and that higher standards lead to better performance, greater team motivation, and stronger results.

Dr. Okeke emphasised that HR professionals are no longer mere custodians of employment but must evolve into “stewards of the entire work experience”. He outlined the essential capabilities of HR leaders in today’s rapidly changing world: business acumen, data literacy, effective communication, and change management expertise, emphasising that only by mastering these can HR professionals truly lead transformation.

“Raising the bar is not a one-time event but an ongoing process of reflection, recalibration, and re-creation,” he said. “The HR professional of today must not only align organisational culture with business goals but also ensure that technology, ethics, and humanity work together for sustainable impact.”

Also speaking, is the Chairman of the Conflict Resolution and Mediation Committee, Pastor Vincent Adegborioye, FCIPM, who reechoed the President’s message, stating: “When spirituality merges with structure, the result will be outstanding.” He encouraged inductees to leverage RCCG’s structure while upholding CIPM’s standards to elevate their HR careers.

The new inductees were urged to actively participate in RCCG Chapter and Ogun State Branch activities of the Institute, and to take advantage of the newly launched CIPM HR Leadership Academy to hone their skills. The President also encouraged them to register and attend the 57th International Conference and Exhibition of the Institute, scheduled for October 27–30, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

With this induction, CIPM reaffirmed its commitment to raising the bar of HR practice in all sectors of the economy. By embedding global best practices, strengthening ethics, and equipping HR professionals with strategic leadership skills, the Institute continues to drive its mandate of professionalising human resource management as a cornerstone for national development.

In a landmark event, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) conducted a specialised induction ceremony for public service staff of the Lagos State Government, marking a significant milestone in the professionalisation of human resource management within the state’s civil service.

New Inductees at the 65th Induction Ceremony of CIPM held in Lagos

A total of 141 officers were formally inducted into the Institute, with eight individuals inducted as Full Members (MCIPM) and 133 inducted as Associate Members (ACIPM) through the HR Practitioners route. The ceremony, themed “Resilient People, Responsive Service: Charting the Future of HR in the Public Service,” underscored the evolving role of HR in driving transformation across government institutions.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, in his keynote address, welcomed the inductees to the 65th Induction Ceremony with a stirring message of purpose and pride. He described the event as “a coronation of potential,” and reminded the new members that their CIPM lapel is not just symbolic, but a legal license to practise HR in Nigeria. He encouraged them to enrol in the newly launched CIPM HR Leadership Academy, designed to deepen expertise across HR value chains, and to actively participate in Lagos State branch and Alausa Chapter events, as well as national programmes like the CIPM International Conference and Exhibition (ICE) – the largest HR event in Africa.

The President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli, delivering his opening remarks at the 65th Induction Ceremony of CIPM held in Lagos

“We are not here to tick boxes or crown titles,” the President declared. “We are here to awaken trailblazers who will make the public service not just functional, but phenomenal.” He urged the inductees to embrace resilience and responsiveness, noting that “resilience is not forged in comfort; it is hammered in the heat of challenges and polished in the grit of persistence.”

The Head of Service of Lagos State, Mr. Shuaheeb Bode Agoro, MCIPM, was represented by Mrs. Abosede George, Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Commission. In her remarks, she emphasized the centrality of HR in organisational effectiveness, stating, “HR is the most important department of any organisation. Without it, other branches are ineffective.” She charged the inductees to leave a legacy of excellence, urging them to “ensure they leave the civil service better than they met it.”

L–R: Immediate Past President of CIPM, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, fnli; National Treasurer of CIPM, Mrs. Ogochukwu Egbuonu, FCIPM; Guest Speaker, Mrs. Bibilomo Olayide Olushekun, MCIPM; President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, fnli; Vice President of CIPM, Mrs. Chidinma Justina Obiejesi, FCIPM; and Registrar/Chief Executive of CIPM, Ms. Oluwatoyin Naiwo, FCIPM, at the 65th Specialised Induction Ceremony of CIPM, held recently at the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

The Guest Speaker, Mrs. Bibilomo Olayide Olushekun, MCIPM, Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Governments, Establishments & Training, delivered a compelling lecture on the future of HR in public service. She highlighted the urgent need for transformation in the face of digital disruption, economic volatility, and rising public expectations.

“Public service has moved from paper-based to digital technology. HR is key in this transition,” she said. She outlined the attributes of a modern workplace, including Digital HR, Agile teams, Real-time service, and Transparency and Accountability, stressing that HR must lead the charge in reshaping policies, reskilling staff, and driving innovation.

Mrs. Olushekun warned that traditional bureaucratic systems, marked by slow approvals and outdated practices, breed dysfunction and public frustration. She called on HR professionals to be the bridge between today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities, asserting that “without a resilient and responsive HR driving the transition, progress stalls.”

The ceremony concluded with a resounding call to action: Resilient HR creates responsive service. Responsive service builds public trust. And HR is the foundation that makes both possible.

With this induction, CIPM continues to strengthen the professional capacity of HR practitioners in the public sector, reinforcing its role as the statutory regulator of human resource management in Nigeria.
