Ahmed Bolaji Nagode (ABN), the Director-General of the National Power Training Institute
(NAPTIN) was born on the 10th of August 1962 to the family of Late Alhaji S. A. Nagode
and Alhaja Hanatu Nagode (Nee Belgore).
He started his school education at Ireti Primary School, Ikoyi, Lagos State, and United
Primary School, Ilorin, between 1968- 1974. Thereafter, he was offered admission into
Government Secondary School (GSS), Ilorin in 1974.
Having graduated from GSS Ilorin with flying colours, he proceeded to the School of Basic
Studies (SBS) under the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, between 1979 and 1980
for his A’ Level. He eventually gained admission into the prestigious ABU Zaria from where
he bagged a BSC (Hons) degree in Political Science in 1984.
On completion of his 1-year mandatory NYSC in Benue State in 1985, ABN took up a
teaching job with the Kwara State Education Management Board in 1986 and in 1988, was
appointed as a Personal Assistant to the then Honourable Commissioner for Education,
in 1987.
In 1989, he was posted to Baboko Secondary School Ilorin to continue his teaching job.
While at the school, he gained admission into the University of Ilorin where he bagged a
Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree in 1991.
Ahmed Bolaji Nagode made an effort at career advancement in 1993 when he took up an
employment opportunity with the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) as Manager
(Personnel and Administration) in charge of recruitment.
As someone with a flair for personal advancement, he went for further studies at the
University of Lagos where he bagged a Post Graduate Diploma in Management in 1995.
Due to sheer diligence and hard work, he rose to the rank of Senior Manager (Personnel
and Admin) in charge of Staff promotion in 1996.
He was promoted to the position of Principal Manager (HR) in charge of Recruitment and
Promotion in 2002. Nagode in 2004 was one of the human resource managers in the
defunct NEPA that partnered with Accenture on the HR Transformation Process in
preparation for the unbundling of the monopoly to successor companies.
He was the team-lead of the Job Description (JD) work stream during Power Holding
Company of Nigeria (PHCN)’s partnership with Akintola Deloitte on Labour Restructuring
project in preparation for Privatization in 2005/2006.
Ahmed Bolaji Nagode was a member of the Committee that produced the blue print for
the establishment of a power sector training institute working with the Nigeria Infrastructure
Advisory Facility (NIAF) under DFID! This blue print led to the establishment of National
Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in 2009.
ABN’s career progression took him to the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria
(NAPTIN) in 2013 as Deputy Director (Training Programme). He got elevated to the post
of Director (Business Services) a year later, 2014.
He led the NAPTIN team that partnered with GIZ under the Nigeria Energy Support
Programme (NESP) to facilitate Institutional processes for NAPTIN namely Institutional
and Training Market assessment, Business Development, Marketing blueprint and
development of two new courses on Power Plant Automation and Switchgear and
Transformer Maintenance. The Committee also provided the framework for NAPTIN’s
training in Renewable Energy by developing courses in the areas of Solar PV Installation
and Maintenance, Solar PV Installation Supervision, Minigrid Design and Energy
Efficiency.
He was appointed as the Acting Director General (DG) of NAPTIN in December 2016 and
got confirmed to the substantive grade of DG by President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR)
in June 2019.
The versatile and well-travelled ABN has attended several training courses and
conferences both locally and Internationally.
In 2017, he was elected as the President of the Third Estate (Ilorin Emirate)– a prestigious
socio-cultural group of professionals from Ilorin Emirate. Under his leadership, the Third
Estate invested in the youth by sponsoring over 50 young Emirate indigenes in skills
acquisition in the areas of Solar PV Installation & Solar PV Installation Supervision, IT web
Application, Electrical Installation and CCTV installation. The Group under his watch also
provided communities with Bore Hole water facility and Medical outreach in primary health
care delivery
He is a Fellow of professional bodies CIPM, NIM, and member of the Institute for
Corporate Administration
Ahmed Bolaji Nagode is happily married and blessed with adorable children.
His sterling track record has over the years, has earned him several awards.
