Dr Balarabe Aliyu is the Executive Director, and Country HR Manager for ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria. He has over 2 decades experience of leading Human Resources and Labour Relations in Energy industry in Africa, UK/Europe and the Middle East. He is a visionary, executive-level HR leader with a proven talent for developing powerful people strategies that drive both commercial and employee engagement gains.

As Member of the Mobil Producing Nigeria (subsidiary of ExxonMobil) Board, Bala shapes and informs wider business plans and strategy in a complex regulatory and operating environment. He also Chairs the Oil Producers Trade Sector (OPTS) HR Subcommittee, leading the Oil & Gas industry advocacy efforts with key stakeholders, including government representatives, JV partners and regulators.

Operating in an environment with high trade union density, Bala has drawn on his industrial relations expertise to establish balanced trade union relations, that preserve the right to manage and constructively address workplace issues.

Bala chairs the Board of Trustees of the ExxonMobil Upstream Nigeria Pension Plan and Nigeria Employee Savings Plan, with fiduciary oversight of all long-term benefit plans in Nigeria, equating to $multimillion in financial assets, and responsibility for managing regulatory and legislative impacts.

He is a distinguished HR Professional and former Chairman Education Committee of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (2018 – 2020), where he led the Institute’s effort to implement electronic student examinations in 2020. Well qualified, Bala has a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK, and holds an array of professional accreditation, including Chartered membership of CIPD UK, CIPMN, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
