SYNOPSIS FOR ACADEMIC CONFERENCE 2026

Do you know that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a transformative force across the Academia, Industry and Government?

Do you have full knowledge of how AI is reshaping knowledge creation, economic activity and public policy?

Can you see the opportunities created by AI in the teaching and practice of Human Resource Management?

The CIPM’s 3rd International Academic Conference themed Artificial Intelligence in Academia, Industry and Government: Navigating Ethics, Innovation and Impact is designed to critically examine the role of Artificial Intelligence across academia, industry, and government, with a focus on navigating ethical challenges, fostering innovation, and assessing societal impact. This conference seeks to create an interdisciplinary dialogue that balances technological advancement with responsibility, ensuring AI contributes to equitable knowledge creation, sustainable economic growth, and transparent governance.

OBJECTIVES

  • To equip participants with adequate knowledge on the impacts of AI in bridging the gap between the academia and the industry (town and gown) by fostering meaningful dialogue.
  • To share knowledge on how to translate academic research into practice by showcasing how theoretical advances in AI can address real-world challenges in governance, business and social development.
  • To encourage reciprocal learning where policy makers and industry leaders share practical needs and constraints, while academics contribute evidence-based insights and innovative solutions.
  • To provide platform for interaction of different stakeholders in the academic and business communities.
  • To promote ethical and inclusive AI adoption that reflects both scholarly rigour and societal values, ensuring that communities benefit equitably from technological progress.
  • To strengthen partnerships that enable collaborative projects, policy frameworks and innovation ecosystems connecting the academic with local and global stakeholders.

CONFERENCE SUB-THEMES

AI ETHICS IN PRACTICE: EVALUATING ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS IN RESEARCH, INDUSTRY AND GOVERNANCE

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer confined to theoretical exploration; it is deeply embedded in scientific research, industrial applications, and governance structures. This examines how ethical principles are operationalized across these domains, highlighting both opportunities and challenges.

Key points to note:

  • How can research institutions ensure responsible innovation while maintaining academic freedom?
  • What mechanisms can industry adopt to balance profit motives with accountability to users and communities?
  • In what ways should governance structures evolve to regulate AI systems without stifling innovation?

By convening voices from both the “town” and the “gown,” this subtheme aims to foster dialogue that moves beyond abstract principles toward actionable strategies. Participants will engage with cross-sector collaborations to illuminate the challenges and opportunities of embedding ethics into AI practice. The goal is to cultivate a shared understanding of responsibility that transcends disciplinary and institutional boundaries, ensuring that AI serves the public good while respecting human dignity.

By bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, this subtheme aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the successes, shortcomings, and evolving strategies of embedding ethics into AI systems. The discussions will highlight case studies, governance models, and emerging best practices, offering participants a nuanced understanding of how ethical imperatives are shaping the trajectory of AI in the real world.

HUMAN-AI COLLABORATION: CO-CREATING SOLUTIONS FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHALLENGES

This explores the transformative potential of human-AI collaboration in addressing pressing socio-economic issues. Rather than positioning artificial intelligence as a replacement for human expertise, it emphasizes a partnership model where technology augments human creativity, judgment, and empathy. The narrative highlights how AI can support inclusive policymaking, optimize resource allocation, and foster innovative solutions to challenges such as poverty, inequality, healthcare access, and sustainable development. By weaving together case studies, theoretical insights, and practical frameworks, the piece demonstrates that co-creation between humans and AI can generate scalable, equitable, and context-sensitive interventions. Ultimately, it argues that the future of socio-economic progress depends not on machines alone, but on the synergy between human values and AI capabilities—working together to build resilient, just, and thriving societies.

AI-DRIVEN SUSTAINABILITY: HARNESSING AI FOR SDGs IN ACADEMIA, INDUSTRY AND GOVERNANCE

This subtheme explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across diverse sectors. By bridging the gap between town and gown—the collaboration between academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and governance structures—AI emerges as a catalyst for sustainable innovation and inclusive growth.

The sessions under this theme will highlight:

  • Academia: How universities are leveraging AI for research, curriculum development, and community engagement to foster sustainability literacy and innovation.
  • Industry: Practical applications of AI in optimizing resource use, reducing carbon footprints, and enabling circular economy models.
  • Governance: Policy frameworks and AI-driven decision-making tools that enhance transparency, accountability, and evidence-based planning for sustainable development.

By convening thought leaders, practitioners, and policymakers, this subtheme aims to showcase interdisciplinary approaches, case studies, and collaborative models that harness AI responsibly and equitably. The ultimate goal is to foster dialogue on how AI can serve as a bridge—connecting knowledge creation with real-world impact—to accelerate progress toward the SDGs while ensuring ethical, inclusive, and sustainable outcomes.
