Over 700 professionals joined the October edition of “CIPM and You,” themed Linking Learning to Business Success: The New Realities, in a highly engaging virtual event. This significant turnout reflects the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria’s (CIPM) dedication to fostering professional growth and development in alignment with its commitment to advancing corporate Nigeria.
The President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, remarked, “In today’s dynamic environment, learning and business success are inseparable. Knowledge must be continually improved, challenged, and expanded – or it risks becoming obsolete.” He added that today’s business landscape demands organisations to continuously align learning initiatives with strategic goals, building adaptability and resilience in every team member.
A recent report by LinkedIn highlighted that 39% of employees who actively engage in workplace learning feel more productive and successful. Panellists at the event further reinforced this, urging HR professionals to rethink their approach to measuring the impact of learning. Key questions they suggested include: Are employees completing their training programmes effectively? Have training initiatives led to behavioural changes? These questions form an essential foundation for HR leaders aiming to assess and validate the impact of their training efforts.
The panellists also emphasised the importance of a direct link between skill development through learning and the broader organisational strategy. Key insights from the session included:
- People are the ultimate competitive advantage for any organisation.
- HR professionals must ensure that learning in the classroom translates into real behavioural changes that drive organisational progress.
- Learning is no longer “business as usual” – it should evolve alongside the business.
- Annual needs analysis should be conducted to identify the skills and knowledge needed to achieve organisational objectives.
- Professionals should leverage the technological access to learning platforms for continuous improvement.
